Grading
Procedure
Gradings
usually take place four times each year, see the diary for this year's
dates.
For a new student your first grading can be very nerve-wracking.
You've learnt everything you need to know,
but what actually happens on the day?
You should arrive in good time for the grading
to
have enough time to get changed. You will also be able to go through anything
you want to practise.
You will be asked to line up by one of the
senior
grades who will then go through a warm up. When Grandmaster Loh arrives he will
recite the Oath of Taekwondo and you will bow to him before being dismissed to
the back of the room.
The most junior grades go first, working through
to the most senior at
the end.
Grandmaster Loh will be seated at the front of
the room. Next to him,
a senior student or Instructor will be issuing the
commands.
When your name is called answer," Present
Sir." and go to the position indicated. The positions are clearly marked on
the floor. You will be required to identify yourself. Raise your hand and tell
Grandmaster Loh your name and grade. The commands for your grading will then be given. When you are performing don't forget to shout, it is a sign of good
spirit.
After your syllabus is completed Grandmaster
Loh may want to ask you a question. You should approach, bow, then step
forward towards the desk. Before returning to your position, bow again to
Grandmaster Loh.
You will then be dismissed and you can sit down
again. You will no
doubt feel relieved to have completed your grading, but it is
important
to try to be as quiet as possible so that you so not disrupt the
concentration of the students who are grading after you.
For more advanced students who are required to
perform breaking techniques you will be asked to return to the floor once all
of the group gradings have been completed.
When everyone has finished you will line up
again. Grandmaster Loh
may decide to go through a few techniques with the group.
After this
has finished you will bow to Grandmaster Loh and your Instructors.
That's it
for another few months!
